JUST REFINERS USA, INC. SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
Just Refiners USA, Inc. is committed to reducing its impact on the environment and is in full compliance with all rules and regulations set forth by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) in conjunction with the State of Nevada, Washoe County, and the City of Sparks. JRI will comply with all relevant environmental legislation set forth by all of these institutions and will set goals for ongoing improvement.
An “Environmental Engineer” is available at all times for consulting, to be sure of the following:
- JRI complies with environmental legislation.
- JRI assesses the environmental impact of current and future operations.
- JRI continually seeks to improve environmental performance.
- JRI is committed to reduce pollution, emissions and waste.
- JRI will train employees in environmental matters and empower them to contribute and participate.
- JRI understands the importance of environmental principles and will commit to principles and continual improvement in our business.
- JRI can assure the community in which we operate about our commitment to the environment.
Between 2017 and 2022 the spent carbon processed by JRI produced 1455 tons of water. All 1455 tons of water have been treated in house. This means JRI remains a zero-discharge facility.
Safety and Environmental Health is a priority at JRI, therefore JRI thoroughly complies with industry regulations including OSHA, City of Sparks, Washoe County, State of Nevada, and United States Environmental Protection Agency regulations.

SAFETY TRAINING
Just Refiners USA, Inc. recognizes that education and training are important tools for informing workers and managers about workplace hazards and controls so they can work safely. JRI takes full responsibility to protect our visitors and employees equally along with the environment . Safety meetings are held regularly covering all areas associated with JRI’s processes.
Visitors must sign a form recognizing the safety procedures in place at JRI as well as wear protective safety gear while in the work place. Hard hats, high visibility vests, safety glasses and hearing protection will be supplied to visitors or they are welcome to bring you’re their own PPE as long as it is OSHA certified. Shorts, sleeveless tops and open toe shoes are prohibited in the operations area.
Just Refiners USA, Inc. has employees that are CPR and First Aid trained on site. A few employees are also OSHA 30 and OSHA 10 certified.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTANT - MICHAEL “MIKE” ELGES
Just Refiners USA, Inc. receives environmental consultation and support from Mike Elges.
Mike is a senior environmental manager with over 30 years of experience in environmental engineering and business management. Mike worked for the State of Nevada’s Gaming Control Board beginning in 1983 and transferred to the State’s Division of Environmental Protection as an Environmental Engineer in 1990. In mid-2001 Mike was promoted to the Chief of the Bureau of Air Pollution Control and served that position through 2009. Mike was promoted to Deputy Administrator of the Nevada Division of the Environmental Protection in 2010, where he was managing Nevada’s regulatory environmental programs.
Mike is nationally recognized as a leading expert in mercury given his extensive work in coal combustion, precious metal mining and the transport, repackaging, and storage of the Nation’s mercury stockpile.
